January Favourites 2022
I started this style of blog post back in 2020 but as happens with life sometimes, I got derailed & distracted & they got put on the back burner. But now they are back for 2022, a simple list of things that I have been enjoying recently which I am sharing in the hope that they might bring you some joy too. On these lists you will find anything from yoga poses or breathwork practices that I have been favouring month to month, to skincare products I rate highly, books I would recommend to a friend or activities that have been bringing me delight on the daily.
Yoga Poses - Hip Openers - Pigeon & Baddha Konasana - These are two of my absolute favourite yoga asana poses & not just in the month of January but all year round. Hip openers are brilliant for releasing stagnant energy from the body, both physical & emotional, as well as improving circulation, motion & movement amongst other benefits.
Pranayama - Nadi Shodana (alternate nostril breathing) - With benefits such as sharpening focus & awareness, balancing the nervous system, clearing the body's energetic channels, reducing feelings of anxiety & preparing the mind & body for meditation there is so much to love about this breathwork practice. Follow the link for a short video guiding you through the practice. Ideal to do on it's own or at the beginning or end of an asana practice.
A concise & super informative read all about periods, hormones & how to live in flow with them. Easy to understand, beautifully designed & a great book if you're just starting out on your menstruation education journey.
Film & TV - Don't Look Up (Netflix) - A film all about astronomers who discover a meteor heading towards Earth. They try to warn everyone but are not taken seriously causing much mess & frustration. An indirect yet poignant, powerful representation of what is currently happening to our planet re: climate change.
What We Do in the Shadows (BBCiplayer) - A humorous mockumentary about vampires, their familiar, other weird & wonderful creatures that live in the dark & all their nightly antics. Super funny & easy to watch, plus the costumes are utterly fabulous.
Beauty & Skincare - Hemp Heavy-Duty Body Moisture Protector (The Body Shop) - Deliciously silky & buttery to touch. This sinks into the skin quickly & leaves it feeling nourished & soft. A subtle but pleasant smell, cute packaging & reasonable price point, I will definitely be re-purchasing.
Coffee Exfoliator (Up Circle) - Ethically & sustainably minded Up Circle have created this exfoliator that smells good enough to eat using coffee grounds sourced from artisan coffee shops. Including thyme, petitgrain, tea tree & rosemary essential oils to awaken all the senses & help to clean out pores. I do like to cleanse straight after using this as it does often leave a slight residue on the skin, however the pros definitely outweigh the cons of this product.
Food & Drink - A dear friend bought me a scrumptious organic herbal tea from Iydea - Brighton a plant-based restaurant in the heart of the North Laines. With a mix of linden, camomile, rosehips & many other spices this blend is deeply relaxing & grounding, an ideal hot drink of choice on these cold Winter days.
Apps - Insight Timer - Full to bursting with meditations, courses, soundscapes, short talks & so much more to help you on your mindfulness journey. The free version is incredibly generous with the amount of content you can access & each feature ranges in style & length ensuring there is something suitable for everyone, whether you're just starting out on your meditation journey, need help sleeping or have been practicing for years & want to delve to an even deeper level.
Music - Koan - Trippy liquid flow, ideal for coming down at the end of a night or an upbeat yet chilled out vibe in the background of your laptop work. Moody, slow psychedelic trance that takes you on a journey.
Shaman's Harvest - Hard rock with a firm beat, good for a singalong & transporting your mind to an edgy biker bar somewhere in the USA.
The Small Things - Watching the sunset from my balcony. The colours of nature will truly never cease to amaze me.
- The birds flocking to my bird feeders every morning. They make a bloody mess but it's a delight to watch them so close up as they enjoy the food I put out.
- My partner & one of my best friends moving in. This month has seen both my partner & one of my best friends move in with me & I couldn't be happier to be sharing this space with them. We're having the best time making it our own & supporting each other as we all embark on a new chapter of our lives.
I would love to hear what you've been enjoying recently. It can be anything from exercise classes you've been trying out or clothing brands you can't stop wearing, to your favourite new restaurant or coffee shop. Share the wealth in the comments below & have a blessed day x
