March Favourites 2022
What a month it has been, big nights out, cold water swims, big work progression & I turned 30! Here are some of the things I've loved most this month.
Yoga Style - Yin
Calming feminine energy, working to stretch the connective tissue throughout the body, Yin yoga works by holding postures for longer periods of time than other styles of asana. This gives the body time to release & relax, passively stretching whilst the mind goes into a medative state. Poses can be held anywhere between 2 - 10 minutes, accessing deeper layers of facia, allowing emotions to surface & calming the nervous system.
Music - Goldfish
An electronic music DJ duo, these guys have been one of my favourite artists since my partner introduced me to them when we first got together around five & a half years ago. At the beginning of the month we went to see them live for the third time together at Printworks, London & as always they put on a incredible show. Super uplifting, summery vibes, killer beats & live instruments (including a double bass, piano & saxophone) what's not to love? Feel good music that I will never get bored of, this South African Duo are doing amazing things musically & also care a lot for the oceans, ensuring all their gigs are plastic free & doing beach cleans occasionally too, be sure to check them out!
My second big night out of the month was to see Sama at Phonox in Brixton, London. This small intimate club was perfect for a night of hard techno beats. A great night spent with some of my best friends, dancing until the early hours to this super badass DJ from Palestine, one for the memory bank for sure.
Clothing - Outside In
An awesome clothing brand I discovered after purchasing one of their hats second-hand in a charity shop a few months ago. I loved it so much I checked them out online & discovered that for every item bought from them they donate another item to those who are homeless. I have since purchased another hat & jumper from them & absolute love the items as well as the ethics behind the brand.
I'm only around halfway through this but I'm already loving it. I've read many books on manifesting before but I enjoy how this one is broken down into really simple, actionable steps with guides & activities to do to actually make things happen.
Again, I'm no way near finished with this book but I'm really enjoying getting stuck into something a little different from my usual books. Eat Pray Love is in my top three books of all time so I knew I'd enjoy another release from Elizabeth Gilbert. Set in the 1940s, the plot follows a group of young women as they navigate their wild lives in New York City around the time of war. Also picked this one up from a charity shop for about 50p which is always a win.
Cold Water Swimming
Admittedly this is getting easier as the weeks/ weather get slightly warmer but I've been around four or five times now & with each swim I've stayed in just a little bit longer. I think the current record is around eight or nine minutes. The wetsuit socks definitely help & when pay day arrives wetsuit gloves will be my next purchase. The buzz you get after being in the water & the feeling of cosying up in layers on the beach afterwards, especially when shared with friends is addictive. 100% something I'm looking to keep up throughout the year & beyond.
Low Waste Shopping - Harriet's of Hove
A small independent re-fill shop working hard to make low waste shopping more accessible. The staff are a delight & delivery is also an option which is really handy. I've been a loyal customer for about a year now (since I moved to Brighton last March) for those of you living in & around Brighton/ Hove who are in a position to shop with sustainability more in mind (I understand this is a privilege not affordable for all) I can't recommend them enough.
Turning 30
A few days before my 30th birthday a group of my closest girlfriends & I took off to an AirBnB in the countryside for two nights where we ate, drank, talked & laughed our way through the weekend. We went for a wholesome walk & pub lunch, cooked dinners together & laughed until we cried, it was exactly what I needed. I then had a whole week of gifts, cards & love, ending with my Brighton besties hosting a birthday dinner for me at their house. I feel so so loved & am actually loving getting older (& dare I say it wiser). I am super excited for what my 30s will bring me & although I know there will be ups & downs (as there always is) I cannot wait for the opportunities, experiences & growth that I know await me.
